Piranha 2010

From director Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) comes the new action thriller PIRANHA.  Every year the population of sleepy Lake Victoria explodes from 5,000 to 50,000 for  Spring Break, a riot of sun and drunken fun. But this year, there's something more to worry about than hangovers and complaints from local old timers; a new type of terror is about to be cut loose on Lake Victoria.  After a sudden underwater tremor sets free scores of the prehistoric man-eating fish, an unlikely group of strangers must band together to stop themselves from becoming fish food for the area's new razor-toothed residents. The films stars Jessica Szohr (Gossip Girl), Steven R. McQueen (The Vampire Diaries), Elisabeth Shue, Jerry O'Connell, Ving Rhames, Richard Dreyfuss and Christopher Lloyd.

Jackie Chan In Karate Kid

Will Smith’s son Jaden gets his first starring vehicle in this loose remake of the 1984 underdog sports-movie classic, taking on the Ralph Macchio role as a new kid in town who enlists the help of a wise eccentric (Chan) to help him turn the tables on a local pack of bullying martial artists.

What We Think: How loose is this remake? It’s set in Hong Kong, not Reseda; the lead character is twelve, not seventeen; and he learns kung fu, not karate. Watching Pat Morita vanquish cocky high-schoolers in the original was cool; watching Chan beat up sixth-graders in the remake is disturbing.

Cool to Know: Morita received a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination in 1985 for his turn as Mr. Miyagi. Don’t expect Chan to repeat the feat.
